Pre or Ante natal exercise is essential to help control weight gain and maintain muscle tone whilst pregnant. Exercising when pregnant also benefits your changing posture to help avoid back pain, it boosts your self-confidence and provides endurance and breathing training in practice for labour and motherhood!
The ante natal work we do is a mixture of cardiovascular exercises and strength training and is not Pilates specific unless on the reformer. There are, however, a few pregnancy conditions where exercise is not recommended- Specialist Pilates will advise.
Post natal exercise is always tricky to undertake, what with the demands of little one (or two!) and the tiredness that comes with motherhood. But learning to regain abdominal muscle use correctly and subsequently return to a svelte figure is the goal of nearly every new mum.
Specialist Pilates focuses on muscle groups that need a little more care after having a baby. Carefully selected exercises concentrate on the abdominals, the pelvic floor and the lower and upper back whilst using resistance weights to build arm and leg muscle and metabolise fat.
1-to-1 At Home Mother & Baby Pilates courses take place at a client's home. These sessions are scheduled around baby's sleep time for session one and awake time for session two. In the first hour, an individual exercise programme to undertake at home is designed and taught. This will be a simple half hour workout that you can do every day. In the second hour we look at how to incorporate baby into exercising together with mum so that you can bond with baby and body tone simultaneously. Again this is designed as a half hour's workout so that eventually mum can do an hour's workout every day, part alone and part with baby. (post 6wk check normal delivery, 10wk check Caesarian)
